Released October 4th 2018! The Mark Of A King Vol 3: The Heir By Jaylin Beam Trever, Ellis, and Elron have just returned from the desert, only to face the Imperials new, savage weapon, and now Elron and Trever must hunt down a rumor of an acid breathing monster that completely wiped out one of King Gotrik's battalions in the snow swept mountains of the north. Meanwhile, Ellis must find the source of another rumor that has spread through not just The Free Kingdoms, but the Empire as well. What if the Emperor was not the only surviving member of the royal family? What if Ellis is not the only one searching for the source? This story continues the tale of Trever, Elron, Ellis, Thaddeus, Garris and others as they face new challenges, choices, and even betrayal at every turn of the page. This book was the one I had been looking forward to for some time even as the writer. I couldn't wait to hold the almost glowing green cover in my hands and it turned out e

Science Fiction. Is Science Fiction your favorite genre?

Image
Is Science Fiction your favorite genre? Science Fiction, whether the genre takes the form of a film or a book, has marveled fans for generations as we look to the stars, to the future, and beyond! According to Merriam-Webster , science fiction is "fiction dealing principally with the impact of actual or imagined science on society or individuals or having a scientific factor as an essential orienting component." According to Oxford Dictionary , science fiction is " Fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances and major social or environmental changes, frequently portraying space or time travel and life on other planets." How do we define Science Fiction? The Merriam-Webster dictionary covers science fiction rather accurately, but the Oxford Dictionary assumes the Science in Science Fiction is "imagined". Of course, the story itself is "imagined" hence the term Fiction, but many Science Fiction books

What's your favorite genre? Is it Suspense-Thriller? Suspense-Thriller Both Suspense and Thriller are powerful genres on their own, but when they collide they become something more and the results can be heart pounding. Especially if you have to wait for the next novel or film! By the way, here’s a couple of interesting examples: Airport : by D.W. Beam , The film: The Manchurian Candidate , from director: Jonathan Demme , Zon Zombie : a novel by D.W. Beam, and a Amazon Best Sellers: Suspense-Thriller link.   How do we define Suspense-Thriller? Merriam - Webster Dictionary : Suspense: “Pleasant excitement as to a decision or outcome.” Thriller: “one that thrills; especially: a work of fiction or drama designed to hold the interest by the use of a high degree of intrigue, adventure, or suspense.” Oxford Dictionary : Suspense: “A state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen.” Thriller: “A novel, play, or film with an exci

City of Gold   by D.W. Beam City of Gold by Dw Beam has just been released for purchase. A book in a genre titled legendary fiction, the cover itself attests to the potential of this incredible adventure. Can't wait to read it! City of Gold Yesterday’s Enemies, Today’s Family A place no one knew. Its extraordinary beauty was unrevealed, only to be infiltrated long after its occupants ceased to exist by those who were at war with one another.
Fantasy: 1 . “Imaginative fiction featuring especially strange settings and grotesque characters.” 2 . “The faculty or activity of imagining impossible or improbable things.” “A genre of imaginative fiction involving magic and adventure,  especially in a setting other than the real world.” Definitions and links from the Merriam-webster and  Oxford dictionaries. Fantasy is a world in of its own where in some cases authors and entertainers  have set a trend many of us love, to be followed. In other cases they attempt,  sometimes successfully so, to change the way we perceive Fantasy.  Lord of the Rings, Eragon, Ranger’s Apprentice, and  The Mark Of A King of course are just a few examples of amazing stories  from this week’s genre, but here are a few questions.   What does it take to be worthy of the Fantasy genre? The Webster definition in my opinion is correct… but doesn’t really grab the entire  aspect of the genre. The first Oxford definition I also beli

What is your favorite genre? As both a reader and a writer, this question, as innocent as it seems,  arises more and more often.  It seems simple enough, but is it really? Stories, books, movies.  Genres no matter what form they take are unique, awe inspiring,  and sometimes even life changing to both authors, readers, and others.  Fantasy, with its mythical creatures and wondrous tales.  Science fiction, with its starships, time travel, and worlds both within  and far beyond our own.  Horror, with its dark mysteries and frightening monsters of all forms.  Our fears and nightmares taking shape.  Action and Adventure, a broad genre that covers pirate ships to  spies to excitingly real stories and beyond.  Non fiction, with its ability to bring knowledge, fear, anger, love,  hope, peace, and so much more to its audience.  Only to have it sink in as we realize once more that it really happened  or is happening as we observe not only in our imaginations,  but in the wo

Writing Tips

Image
Writing has always been a blast for me, but writer's block is a very real problem. So here's a few tips that help me. Coffee. A good coffee drink or Frappe and the words just seem to dance onto the page. Multiple stories. Sometimes when my mind goes blank or I feel like my writing is dry or off subject, then I switch to another story. The change sparks my interest all over again, and in a few days, my writing goes back to normal. Not to mention I have another great adventure to work on. Take a break. Don't overdo it. Some days I push my self a little too hard, and then the next day I'm totally burnt out on it. Sometimes it's best to just take it easy and enjoy it. Create real stories. A trip to the mountains or the movies can do wonders for me, and I come home refreshed and ready to write.  The Fill In. Reading over my story, adding, and making adjustments also helps me when I'm stuck or when I need to meet a page quota. By the time I read to the end, I u
