Science Fiction. Is Science Fiction your favorite genre?

Is Science Fiction your favorite genre?
Science Fiction, whether the genre takes the form of a film or a book, has marveled fans for generations as we look to the stars, to the future, and beyond!
According to Merriam-Webster, science fiction is "fiction dealing principally with the impact of actual or imagined science on society or individuals or having a scientific factor as an essential orienting component."
According to Oxford Dictionary, science fiction is "Fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances and major social or environmental changes, frequently portraying space or time travel and life on other planets."
How do we define Science Fiction?
The Merriam-Webster dictionary covers science fiction rather accurately, but the Oxford Dictionary assumes the Science in Science Fiction is "imagined". Of course, the story itself is "imagined" hence the term Fiction, but many Science Fiction books or films cover very real Science, only utilized in a fictional environment like Planeterial, for instance.
To me, Science Fiction is in of itself inspiring and terrifying! It allows us to imagine what is truly possible in the universe, allows us to reach for the stars so to speak, but at the same time can remind us that stars are in fact massive orbs of heat and gasses that can burn us to death in eight minutes should an environmental factor be displaced! Science Fiction allows us to accomplish incredible feats of technology that are beyond our capabilities in our own world, but for how long? After all, I'd bet if you asked a scientist to describe the characters in a Star Wars or Star Trek book or film, they could tell you.
It is Science Fiction that lays the ground work for Science Fact.
Science Fiction can take many forms and can often be found mixed with other genres like: Science Fiction-Fantasy as Final Fantasy demonstrated or on more familiar films and books like Star Wars or Star Trek. More great Science Fiction Stories are: Planeterial by D.W. Beam, The Missing Series by Haddix, The Adventures of Kimball Mcryan by D.W. Beam, John Carter by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and of course Marvel's Avengers and their accompanying films.
Science Fiction, whether we are writers or readers, challenges the way we perceive the world around us as we observe how science has affected the world we live in even as we imagine what may be on other worlds. Here is an example off the top of my head:
He didn't move. Didn't breath. He couldn't hear or see it. But he knew it was there, and it knew where he was. He glanced at the view screen that looked out upon a devastated Earth, and through the reflection, he could see it. The creature from the stars slowly inching closer and closer, its slithering form unnaturally silent.....
Science Fiction is the science of the mind combined with the power of the imagination.
