Suspense-Thriller. Is this your favorite genre?

Is it Suspense-Thriller?
Both
Suspense and Thriller are powerful genres on their own, but when they
collide they become something more and the results can be heart
pounding. Especially if you have to wait for the next novel or film!
By the way, here’s a couple of interesting examples: Airport:
by D.W.
Beam,
The film: The
Manchurian Candidate,
from director: Jonathan
Demme,
Zon
Zombie:
a novel by D.W. Beam, and a Amazon
Best Sellers: Suspense-Thriller
link.
How
do we define Suspense-Thriller?
Suspense:
“Pleasant excitement as to a decision or outcome.”
Thriller:
“one that thrills; especially: a work of fiction or drama designed
to hold the interest by the use of a high degree of intrigue,
adventure, or suspense.”
Suspense:
“A state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what
may happen.”
Thriller:
“A novel, play, or film with an exciting plot, typically involving
crime or espionage.”
What
does it take to be worthy of not only Suspense or Thriller, but the
genre that truly makes a story unforgettable: Suspense-Thriller?
Merriam-Webster
Dictionary's definition of suspense doesn't seem to do the word justice,
and anyone who has ever been in suspense would know that it is
definitely not always pleasant! Now the Merriam-Webster’s
definition of Thriller on the other hand seems pretty close to what I
would imagine as both an author and a consumer of entertainment.
Oxford Dictionary’s definitions of both words appears to cover it
pretty well, so let's see what happens when they combine to make
another definition.
Suspense-Thriller:
“A novel, play, or film with an exciting plot, typically involving
crime or espionage.”(Merriam-Webster) "[That gives the audience] a state or
feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen.”
(Oxford Dictionary)
Suspense-Thriller
is that balled up pit of excitement, fear, anger, and anticipation in
your stomach as you're slowly drawn closer and closer to the edge of
your seat, eyes sparkling.
“Tediously
almost painfully he reached out for the door. Mere seconds seemed to
stretch into hours as the clock ticked rhythmically. “Tick, Tick,
Tick…” He could just walk away now. He didn't have to see what
was on the other side of that door. No one would ever know.... but he
would and he would never forget."
That's
off the top of my head, but how about a quote from D.W. Beam's novel Airport:
" 'Sir, you'll have to come with us. You're in a forbidden area,' he hears.
'Come with you where?'
'To a secure location.'
'Secure location? What are you talking about?'
'Don't make this more difficult than it has to be, sir.'
As the stewardess stands afar off, watching every detail, she quickly goes about her job, stewarding. But the man is never heard from again."
